HUEVOS DE PASCUAExisten ritos páganos que han llegado hasta nuestros días algunos ya como historia y otros que aún mantienen vigencia en varios lugares de nuestra pequeña esfera azul.
La celebración del equinoccio de primavera es mucho mas antigua que la de la festividad religiosa de Semana Santa, pero varios ritos páganos fueron asumidos por la iglesia para festejar la semana mayor
El huevo, símbolo universal de vida y de resurrección, ha desempeñado desde tiempo inmemorial un papel clave durante las celebraciones de primavera, verdadero comienzo astrológico del año: es el momento en que la naturaleza sale de la tumba invernal. En el ritual cristiano el huevo que se rompe simboliza el sepulcro que se abre como testimonio de Cristo resucitado.
LOS HUEVOS EN LA ANTIGÜEDAD
El huevo de pascua aparece en la jarra de vino etrusca de Tragliatella (aprox. 700 a. C.), en el que aparecen el rey sagrado y su sucesor escapando de un laberinto. Del otro lado de este jarrón ilustra un desfile a pie en la dirección del sol, encabezada por el rey sagrado desarmado. Siete hombres le escoltan y cada uno de ellos lleva tres jabalinas y un gran escudo con el dibujo de un jabalí, y el sucesor armado con una lanza va a la retaguardia. El jabalí sería la insignia familiar del rey sucesor, y los siete hombres representaría los siete meses gobernados por el sucesor, que caen entre la cosecha de manzanas y la Pascua de Resurrección.
La escena tiene lugar el día de la muerte ritual del rey, y la diosa Luna (en este caso Pasífae) ha salido a su encuentro: una terrible figura con túnica y con un amenazante brazo en jarras. Con el otro brazo extendido le ofrece una manzana, que es su pasaporte para el Paraíso; las tres jabalinas que lleva cada hombre significan la muerte.
Sin embargo al rey le acompaña una pequeña figura femenina con túnica como la otra; quizá sea la princesa Ariadna (que ayudó al héroe Teseo a salir del laberinto mortal en Cnosos). El rey muestra audazmente, como un contrahechizo de la manzana, un huevo de pascua, el huevo de la resurrección. La pascua era la estación en que se realizaban las danzas «Ciudad de Troya» en los laberintos hechos sobre el césped (quizá como una coreografía) en Gran Bretaña prehistórica y también en Etruria.
En el frente de la jarra hay un dibujo laberíntico que se encuentra no sólo en ciertas monedas de Cnosos, sino también en los intrincados dibujos hechos en el césped y que hasta el siglo XIX pisaban los escolares británicos en la Pascua de Resurrección.
Un huevo sagrado etrusco de traquita negra pulimentada, encontrado en Perusa (Italia), con una flecha en relieve a su alrededor, es este mismo huevo sagrado.
Entre los siglos IX al XVIII, la iglesia prohibió el consumo de huevos durante la cuaresma, por considerarlo equivalente a la carne, por lo que la gente los cocía y los pintaba para diferenciarlos de los frescos y poderlos consumir el día de Pascua de Resurrección.
EN LA ACTUALIDAD
Con el tiempo estas tradiciones fueron incorporadas a la festividad de Pascua de Resurrección y hoy en día el “huevo de pascua” es un símbolo universal. Para muchos, el huevo se asemeja a la resurrección como un símbolo de vida nueva.
Huevos plásticos y comerciales carecen del esfuerzo artístico. En la actualidad, la tradición continúa con algunas variaciones. En Europa se mantiene la costumbre que data desde la Edad Media de adornar huevos con teñidos y pintados. Aunque parece que la práctica de huevos ornamentales era principalmente elaborada por clases altas o de recursos, se difundió a decoraciones más sencillas, como con el empleo de hojas de árbol para crear patrones sobre el cascarón. El comercio y la modernidad por su parte se ha encargado de incorporar los huevos de chocolate, y los huevos de plástico para ser llenos de dulces, y que supuestamente son escondidos por “el conejo de pascua” para que los niños los busquen, y por consiguiente, encuentren y coman.
Con el citado simbolismo se emplea en Pascua en infinidad de tortas, buñuelos, rosquillas y otras golosinas como las llamadas monas. Estos bollos con personajes de chocolate y un huevo duro son muy populares en Cataluña, donde tradicionalmente el lunes de Pascua los padrinos obsequian a sus ahijados con una mona.
Mientras los ucranianos tienen la costumbre de cocer los huevos, teñirlos de colores y comérselos al amanecer, en la iglesia ortodoxa de Oriente las familias se ofrecen huevos rojos a la hora de la comida. Cada comensal compara su huevo con el de su vecino chocando sus puntas y diciendo: ?¡Cristo ha resucitado!?. El huevo que se casca con este ritual pasa a ser propiedad del vencedor. Luego, todos los comensales se comen los huevos. También es tradicional en muchos pueblos de Europa occidental comer bollos calientes decorados con una cruz de brazos iguales en la Semana Santa. No se trata de una costumbre moderna: los griegos paganos hacían ofrendas de panecillos con cruces a varias diosas de la fertilidad. En Gran Bretaña no se celebran procesiones en estas fechas, pero se mantienen algunas de las antiguas costumbres como la de comer tortitas -pancakes- el martes santo.
